For her debut album Light, Daugherty was interested in exploring naturalistic imagery with an element of starkness or strangeness. Maurice created mineral sculptures and manipulated them through several variations, creating sequences of spheres, some dark and opaque, some light and transparent, that evoke the phases of a solar eclypse and gaseous planets.

The finished photography resonates beautifully with the sonic landscape and contrasts present in the record. Daugherty says of the artwork, “In many ways it’s very organic and naturalistic, but it also has an element of the unfamiliar and the otherworldly.”
