Tracy Maurice is an artist, filmmaker, and creative director who creates distinct visual worlds across film, video, sculpture, photography, performance, installation, and design. Her work combines analog processes with emerging technologies.
Alongside an independent studio practice, she collaborates with artists, musicians, dancers, and filmmakers on a wide range of creative projects.
Based in Montréal, Canada, she lived and worked in New York City for eight years and continues to work with clients internationally.

Maurice first gained recognition as the creative director for the band Arcade Fire, creating iconic album artwork and directing film and video projects for the albums, Neon Bible and Funeral, including the groundbreaking interactive music video Black Mirror.
Her most recent film collaboration, As Above...So Below, was created by composers William Hesselink and Vid Cousins for their collective Dark Sky Society. Maurice contributed cinematography, dark-field microscopy, and chemical macrophotography in collaboration with filmmakers David Barlow-Krelina, Cielle Graham, and Corinne Merrell. The large-scale performance and accompanying film will premiere in Winter 2026.
In 2017, Maurice directed the experimental film Preservation in collaboration with drummer and composer Tommy Crane. The work premiered at the David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center in New York before expanding into an installation in 2019, accompanied by a limited-edition vinyl release and artist book.
Maurice is drawn to practical effects and in-camera processes, using experimental techniques to create tactile, immersive imagery. Her work has included ink-on-glass animation, magnetic fluids, sand animation, cloud tanks, high-speed chemical reactions captured at macro and microscopic scales, and custom optical setups using filters, prisms, and lenses.

Sculpture, props, and costume design are integral to Maurice's visual and filmmaking practice. Her work spans miniature model making, costume fabrication, scenic painting, hand sculpting, mold making and casting, as well as digital fabrication techniques including 3D printing and CNC machining.
In 2019, she created two miniature models for Richard Reed Parry's Quiet River of Dust Vol. 1 and Vol. 2. The models became a central part of the albums' visual identity and were featured in two 360° immersive dome performances presented at the Society for Arts and Technology.

She has worked closely with performers and dancers throughout her practice and collaborates frequently with live artist Dana Michel.
Together, they have created films such as Yellow Towel: A Score and Vanessa Vector William Dodger, as well as the video installation Lay Them All Down. Maurice has also worked with Michel as an artistic collaborator in residence, documenting their live performances and creating trailers and moving-image works that support their projects.
Lay Them All Down represented Canada at the 11th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art and has been presented at Helsinki Art Museum HAM, Shedhalle, and the Wexner Center for the Arts. The work was acquired by the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal in 2026 and was recently included in the exhibition Comfort and Indifference at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.
Their collaboration continues to evolve through a shared interest in experimentation, humor, and trust.
In 2023, Maurice created Light & Shadow, a ceramic collection developed in collaboration with 3D illustrator Renee Forrest. In 2024, she was commissioned by the UK-based company Senses and Beyond to design a line of sustainable ceramic containers. These projects extend her material practice into functional objects, combining digital fabrication, sculptural form, and sustainable design approaches.
Her world-building approach extends to her collaboration with PGB Cymbals, where she develops 3D assets, merchandise, photography, and brand identity across their visual ecosystem.
